Monday Madness -- March 2, 2015

This week finds the Supreme Executive Committee on the move once more. Well, half the SEC anyway. Tim is still snowed in, left behind to invoke the patron saint of ice dams but Scott speaks from an airport on his way to Kenya. Because of lousy Internet speeds, there is bonus entertainment as Tim's face at times resembles an Impressionist painting.

In this episode, hear updates on the first round of Lent Madness and note the admiration of the SEC for a grassroots campaign for one of the candidates. (Like some other Supremes, Tim and Scott stay publicly neutral, but they nevertheless commend good practices when they see them). There's also plenty of time to cast your vote in today's matchup between Francis of Assisi and John Wycliffe.

Scott is going to Kenya and Rwanda on a pilgrimage with Episcopal Migration Ministries to learn more about their good work and about the plight of refugees. Episcopal News Services has a story, and you can follow along on hashtag #ShareTheJourney on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.

Or at least that's his cover story. In reality he's trolling international airports handing out Lent Madness tracts to everyone he meets.

  1. I wish Scott and anyone who goes to Africa well in this latest plague.
    While the disease may be more on the other coast, it's all scary. Was in Mali and Chad in the 1970's with the USAF, admonishment:
    "Don't get sick!"

  2. After choosing between obscure entities, we are confronted by a contest of giants. I would like to lift up dogged protestant Wycliffe, whose bones were cast down, but must vote for saintly Francis, in spite of evils perpetrated by his followers in far off lands, but whose conversion and life was miraculous in fruit of the spirit.

  3. Hey...how come there was no mention of St. Francis work in the Holy Land...preserving ancient sites?
    ...Nice images of all the competitors.

  4. Will the global-viewing public be seeing Maple Anglican and the Archibishops this season?

    1. That is a very good question. The last video the Archbishops did was back in Advent and ended with an announcement that the Archbishops would be back in Epiphany. It is now the second full week of Lent and there has been no sign of either the Archbishops or Maple Anglican.

  5. Why do I get all of the comments a day late. Today it is about voting for St. Francis and Wycliffe which is over. Last year I received the info and could vote on my email address. This year I have to go to facebook. Sure is more difficult;

    1. You do not need to go to Facebook. In fact the only way to vote is to go to LentMadness.org (which you can bookmark and/or make your browser's home page for Lent) and look for the current day's match up (you'll find today's at https://www.lentmadness.org/2015/03/brigid-of-kildare-vs-elizabeth/). Read the hagiographies of the two saints and after the end of the second hagiography you'll see the vote box. If you scroll down below that you will see all the comments made on that post so far (of course if you are looking a current day's post at 8:01 a.m. Eastern, you may not see any). It really is that simple.

      Now if you want to subscribe to the updates via email, every page at LentMadness.org has the email subscription box on the right side near the top (I'm not sure if one must sign up each year or not, as I have never subscribed, since I just go to LentMadness.org each day. But even if you get those emails, you still need to actually go to LentMadness.org to vote and that's exactly where you'll see the comments.

  6. I've arrived late to the madness. I would have voted for John Wycliffe . Anyone who speaks his mind and has angered the pope must be a daring individual. Lucky him to be called a heretic.
