A Solemn Proclamation from the Supreme Executive Committee

A Solemn Proclamation from the Supreme Executive Committee of Lent Madness

Be it known to all unto whom these present letters may come, that the Episcopal Church is preparing to gather in its General Convention, said Convention to be held in the city and diocese of Indianapolis in the Hoosier state; and

Whereas, It would be madness if no one lent the Convention a bit of holy humor and saintly piety; and

Whereas, The Supreme Executive Committee has taken unto itself to improve and saintify the General Convention; now therefore be it

Resolved, That Friday, July 6, 2012 is hereby declared as Lent Madness Day; and be it further

Resolved, That Mary Magdalene, or a life-size cardboard image thereof, shall be present for those who wish to have their photographs taken or portraits painted with the winner of the Golden Halo in Lent Madness 2012; and be it further

Resolved, That the bracket for Lent Madness 2013 shall be revealed to all persons throughout the world on Lent Madness Day; and be it further

Resolved, That the first play-in match shall be held on this day, allowing General Convention guests, bishops, and deputies the opportunity to cast the most important vote of the entire Convention; and be it further

Resolved, That the entire Supreme Executive Committee shall be present at the Forward Movement booth of the exhibit hall to offer autographs of the aforementioned Supreme Executive Committee.

Given under our hand, seal, and smirk on this day, the twenty-second day of June in the two thousand and twelfth year of our Lord's grace, being the Feast of St. Alban, who has never done well in Lent Madness.

  1. OMG! The 2013 bracket is out on 6th July?! All those extra months to agonize over it. How CAN I ever thank you?

Have fun. Wish I could be there. xx

  2. I'm with Meredith, road trip to Indianopolis for the photo op. Would MM consider going on tour? I could use her at Kanuga during guest period 4 - july 21-28.
Thank you Supreme Executive Committee for keeping me smiling, and looking up St. Alban, in the post-lent season.

  3. Thank you, oh high and lofty ones, for having an official 2013 Lenten Madness day @ General Convention. I wish I could be there on July 6 to see the life size cutout of Mary Magdalene & her Golden Halo and take a picture of myself with her.

  4. Oh thank you, high and lofty officials, for having a Lenten Madness day @ General Convention! I sorrow greatly @ not being able to be there where I can peruse your booth & have my picture taken with life-size cutout of Mary & her Golden Halo.

  5. God Bless you and your sense of humor! I loved Lent Madness and this e-mail just brightened my day. Thank you for it all the past, the present and the future promise of so much more fun and learning. Sue

  6. At last! At sense of fun and play in the drear business of Church business! I knew Mary Magdene would represent us well! Thank the SEC for your diligence in smiles and smirks... !

  7. Here come the Saints
    July-ing in.
    They'll madly be July-ing in.
'Mid photo ops, Supremes, plus the brackets,
Mary Mags can flaunt her win.

  8. SECM Scott: Why is Lent Madness like a writing desk?
Alice (at GC): Riddles? Now let me see...Why is Lent Madness like a writing desk?
SECM Scott: I beg your pardon?
Alice: Why is Lent Madness like a writing desk?
SECM Scott: [alarmed] Why is what?
SECM Tim: Careful, she's stark ravin' mad!
Alice: But it's your silly riddle. You just said...
SECM Scott: Easy, don't get excited!
SECM Tim: How about a nice cup of tea?
Alice: "Have a cup of tea," indeed. Well, I'm sorry I just haven't the time!

  9. W00t! (Were I clergy it would be "W00+") I am telling our delegates! I expect a photo of Mother Mary Perrin with The Magdalen. Best souvenir ever!

  10. Queen Emma is NOT pleased - having made it all the way to the Golden Halo round - to be excluded from the festivities. Off with their heads.

    1. !!
Queen Emma would so not be like that! And she is never excluded when I speak of LM 2012 - her battle to ascend to the LM royal court is the stuff of legend, and that I even know anything of her story to re-tell now is exactly what makes Lent Madness so great. God save that gracious queen, too!

  11. I will definitely be there! MM and a flash drive; who else could even begin to compete??!

  12. I sense a call to have cardboard Mary travel throughout the country like the Stanley Cup -- with people bringing her to churches, cocktail parties, little league games, visit sick people in hospitals, etc. Photo ops abound!

    1. Where else to release a bracket but in the Hoosier State! Make sure MM knowsall about running the picket fence. Think I will watch the movie "Hoosiers" , after I read up on St. Albans.

      1. I applaud and support the idea that the winners of Lent Madness go on tour. Many of us who can't go to convention would then have our chance for a photo op.

  13. My heart fainteth. I will not be in Indianapolis to meet my star. She was my pick. I hope I do as well in next year's bracket. Lent Madness is just what we need today.

  14. Yes! Yes! Yes! HOWEVER, in the Supreme Executive Committee's excitement and exuberance on this momentous occasion, the 4th "Resolved," mentions "guests, bishops and deputies" with no mention of "delegates." May I respectfully remind the SEC that Episcopal Church Women comprise half the church and thus half your potential voters and that they will be represented by delegates to the 47th Triennial Meeting. We will have far fewer things to vote on than the bishops and deputies, and we would be delighted to vote for our favorite saints.

  15. Oh,how I wish I could be there for the photo op and see the members of the Grand Excutive commity. Sounds like a rip roaring time with all the gang. Hope the brackets are posted on line, I want mine.

  16. We love the idea of the flat Mary Magdalene. Can I have her for my diocesan convention in October?

  17. Heartily though I desired for the acclamation of Thomas Cranmer, wouldst be niggardly to besmirch the Magdalen's worth by eschewing to have my likeness made with her at said Convention. 'Twill be so.

    1. Hi Sherri, Madeleine here. I too aspired to see T. Cranmer Golden Haloed but 'tis what it 'tis. however, if it couldn't be Thomas, I can't countenance anyone more worthy than mary Magdalene.

  18. This is the best Resolution ever. All in favor? Oh, aye.

I beg you: please post a photo of the SEC with the MM CC....

  19. The Supreme Execs met at Convention;
To bring levity was their intention.
    Mary Mags in 2-D,
    Next year's bracket? DEAR ME!
This waiting's creating too much tension!
